Smart welcomes students from all over the UK at the country’s most celebrated coding workshop
4/12/2023
The UK’s most celebrated coding workshop for women welcomed students from all over the UK, alongside coaches representing over 50 tech companies, to London’s West End last weekend, for the annual Rails Girls London event.
Rails Girls London is a free 1.5-day workshop where participants discover the exciting world of web development through Ruby on Rails. With the help and guidance of experienced volunteer coaches, students created their own websites from scratch in a fun and relaxed atmosphere at the Marylebone HQ of Smart, the leading fintech organisation, with sponsorship from Cleo, the AI money assistant, and Carwow, as well as Smart.
Rails Girls is a non-profit community making coding more accessible to women. It has created many opportunities for women in tech and over 25% of their participants become engineers and then return to coach the next generation. Rails Girls London’s workshop has been at Smart’s HQ for the past two years and the company’s Engineering team also volunteers as coaches and mentors, along with volunteers from fellow sponsors Cleo and Carwow, and many more beyond.
Maria Khait, who has organised Rails Girls London with others for 10 years, said:
“We’re delighted to have hosted this year’s Rails Girls London workshop. We’ve met with many inspiring and promising students, and fantastic coaches last weekend. We’re committed to create more diversity in tech and help people reach their full potential, which includes equipping them with critical thinking, problem-solving and programming skills that will serve them for years to come.”
Sam Barton, CTO at Smart said:
“We’ve always admired the work done by Rails Girls, so we’re delighted to have sponsored and hosted the annual Rails Girls London workshop once more. We will only see fintech go from strength to strength if we can ensure that the sector has a strong pool of male and female developers. Events like these are incredibly important because girls are more likely to keep on pursuing STEM subjects at school and higher education, and consider the tech industry as a career.”
The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!
Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
